How do you feel about our last week challenge - Kick the Plastic Wraps?
When we first started, the most difficult part we found without plastic wraps was freezer storage. We don't have enough room in our freezer for all the bulky containers, and without plastic wraps, it's hard to freeze portioned meats, breads etc Then we switch to silicone food storage bags and really much don't miss the plastic wrap at all. But it's a bit of the investment that not accessible to everyone though. Have you faced the same problem, and what were your alternative solutions? I heard from other people that saving the lining of cereal boxes, or chips bags etc if you still purchase them anyways, wash them up and use them for freezer storage. That will work perfectly, use what you already have!
This week, we bring in another challenge - BRING YOUR OWN CUP - SAY NO TO PLASTIC STRAWS - BRING REUSABLE WATER BOTTLE
Let's take a quick look at some facts:
✅Half a million straws are used in the world every day.
✅500 billion disposable cups are consumed every year.
✅Humans buy about 1,000,000 plastic bottles per minute in total.
(REFERENCE SOURCE: https://www.earthday.org/fact-sheet-single-use-plastics/)
✅Disposable coffee cups are NOT recyclable!
✅Paper cups are not recyclable because of the plastic liner and coffee contamination
✅If an individual purchases a disposable cup every day, this creates about 23 pounds of waste per year.
We've been making our own coffee using a French Press for quite a long time now so it's already become a habit, and it's definitely saved us money. Same thing with water bottles, we rarely buy any water bottles for years.
If you could at least make your own morning beverages twice a week, perhaps you'll get used to the habit of using your reusable cups if you need to take them on the go. Then challenge yourself to bring your own cup with you, refuse the straws, or if you must use a straw, get yourself a reusable one. Same thing with single-use water bottles, bring the reusable water bottle, it's a pleasure to live in a country with most area has perfectly drinkable tap water, it's also not hard to find a refill station, a countertop water filter at most places.
Will you take action to reduce waste on your everyday beverages and also save you money over time?
Let's do it, one sip at a time 💖
